Stay On Top of Your Content Marketing Game
Content marketing has been around for ages, but digital content marketing is among the newest in the marketing world, and is still maturing. Digital content marketing has to be sophisticated and precise. Gauging a company's digital content marketing maturity level is something that is imperative in order to reach optimum marketing abilities. Companies can increase campaign effectiveness by focusing on improving the various components of their digital content marketing endeavors.

Strategic Planning

Digital content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on writing content to build and retain a defined audience--which will ultimately drive profits. The approach focuses on repeatedly distributing relevant, entertaining content in order to attract target audiences. And timing is everything! Content marketing should speak to a targeted audience and fit in a specific place in the buying cycle. A recent report by the Content Marketing Institute indicated that, when it comes to a company's digital content marketing maturity level, many businesses fall short of producing effectively engaging and driven content that pulls in potential customers to your social media niche. Of the companies interviewed, they ranked their digital content marketing maturity level as follows:
  • Sophisticated - 8% felt they effectively provide accurate measurements.
  • Mature - 24% encountered some setbacks along the way, but managed to overcome challenges and reap success.
  • Adolescent - 29% felt they had experienced some success in becoming more sophisticated with measurement and scaling.
  • Young - 27% experienced many growing pains and challenges developing a cohesive strategy and measurement plan.
  • Infancy/First Steps - 12% developed some content without yet implementing a content marketing process
In order for a company to get to the sophisticated maturity level, it is important to document strategies. According to the Content Marketing Institute's report, "53% of the most effective marketers have a documented digital content marketing strategy," while "40% of the least effective marketers have no strategy at all." Once the strategy has been hammered out, developing high-quality marketing content to selected channels is your next step. Getting into the sophisticated top 8% requires concentrated efforts that may be better driven by an outside agency well-equipped to handle such tasks. This is where a creative marketing agency can come into play. Dependent on company size, you can hire out strategy development and/or content creation, which can also vet out any chance that your content isn't just your company "talking to itself."
 
However a company chooses to deploy their digital content marketing efforts, they need to ensure they stick to their strategy and goals. Digital content marketing can be very rewarding, and embracing it is well worth the effort.
