Collaboration Station

No matter your level of genius, it has been proven time and time again that two or more heads are better than one. Bringing different views to a project will give it more depth and help you reach a broader range of people. Managing cross-department collaboration within a company can be tricky, whether you have a great new idea, or just need to keep on-task day-to-day. Luckily, this hurdle has been recognized, and solutions abound. Collaboration software is constantly evolving and addressing the issue of moving ideas down the production line.

Challenge: Accepted

Project management within any company needs a clear path to get from start to finish. And, so, the real challenge comes when companies have multiple departments with employees in multiple geographies working toward the same end goal. Language barriers, time differences, and good old-fashioned differences of opinion can prevent a smooth workflow.

Time is money when many different hands are in the mix. When on-the-go access is a must, enterprise collaboration methods such as Prezi, Microsoft SharePoint, or cloud-based Huddle are some of many available solutions for creating better company productivity and project workflow.

Workplaces have evolved from employees working strictly in-office, to employees working both in-house and remotely. Working remotely has its benefits--but also leaves room for error. Collaboration tools help to prevent these errors.

Revisions Revised

Collaboration tools aren't only for internal company use--many can be used to facilitate dialogue between a company and a client, allowing for better efficiencies and quicker turnaround. Free collaboration tool, GoVisually, facilitates this kind of work in the cloud, and offers the helpful feature of applying "layers" for each user to keep a clear grasp on the feedback and changes taking place.

Programs such as ShowDocument and Google Drive allow users to mark-up and make comments on multiple file types such as Microsoft Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and Adobe PDFs. These programs also offer screen sharing for real-time collaboration. Google Drive gives users the tools needed to share and complete projects effortlessly. Not only does Google Drive offer an array of apps to choose from, but users can view over 30 different file types--all within their browser. Talk about efficiency!

Recognizing the need to communicate within your group is half the battle. Utilizing one of the many collaboration apps or software tools available can keep communication problems from becoming an epidemic between departments, individuals, and clients. Since a variety of collaboration software showcasing different features is available, deciding on the right tool for your company depends on which file formats you work in, how many people you have on your team, and what kinds of features you will need. Once you've analyzed your needs, very little research is required to choose the right software for your company. Organizational relief will be on the horizon once you take charge, break communication barriers, and let the work flow.

Sincerely,
