Forum Explores High Speed Internet
Imagine high-speed, affordable internet access here in Yellow Springs, owned and operated locally, not by a huge corporate entity. A group of YS residents is working to make this vision a reality, and is organizing a Fiber Forum to help inform local business owners and individuals. This free event will be held Saturday, April 25, at MVECA, 330 E. Enon Rd. Local, state, and national speakers from 9am to Noon will be followed by a free roundtable lunch with questions and answers.
By optimizing internet access with fiber, YS will address strategic economic, communication, and municipal service goals...
- attract new business ventures
- provide much faster and more affordable internet service to YS residents and businesses
- provide new revenue streams for our Village that will stay in our Village
- be a backbone for wi-fi access downtown and in other areas
- create options for video streaming and multicast video as well as telephone service
- provide a locally controlled resource that will resist attempts to override Net Neutrality by large telecom carriers
- utilize smart grid functionality for utility, health care, and emergency services
Click here to register for the Fiber Forum.

YS Art Cans Project
Beth Holyoke and Kthi Seidl are hoping to continue their exciting Art Can project to enhance YS sidewalks in a creative and useful way. By clearly labeling and locating them strategically, the new sets (trash + recycling) of Art Cans will make it easier for people to separate recycling and landfill waste and, therefore, improve waste management downtown.
The Village has invested over $4000 in four sets and now it is hoped that the business community will be interested in sponsoring the project to help it move forward. All sponsors will be recognized on the cans and in promotional materials. Sponsorships range from $100 to $1500.
