Beware of Award Scams

We received an inquiry this morning from a member asking about the validity of an email he received stating the following "Hudson Sculpture has been selected for the 2014 Best of Yellow Springs Awards for Sculptor's Studio." This email connected to an official looking website for "Yellow Springs Award Program, Recognizing and honoring the best in business."  Further exploration shows that you must pay for your own award.

This effort is an absolute scam! There is no connection to the Chamber, Village or any other local organization. I've received other inquiries about similar "awards". Please note that  any award that you are required to purchase is clearly not an award at all but is a ploy to prey on unsuspecting business owners.  Click here to see just how sophisticated this scam is.

If you receive anything similar or have questions about any inquiries you receive, please give us a call or forward the email so that we can give you an opinion of the validity. This is the last thing any of our businesses need to be wasting time and money on.

Website Statistics Support Value of Chamber Membership

We told you last time about our new websites and we've gotten some great feedback. If you haven't seen them, the Member/Business site is www.yschamber.org and the Visitor site is www.yellowspringsohio.org.

We can also report on our first month of statistics from Google Analytics. A thumbnail summary, we had 18,000 visits and 64,000 page views between June 20 & July 20. Impressive when you consider that this didn't include the very busy  Street Fair period. For a view of the entire report, click here.

We understand someone is visiting our local businesses suggesting that they can create a community website that will be of greater benefit  to your business than the Chamber site.  YellowSpringsOhio.org is the number one site in the community and is the first site that pops up in a web search for Yellow Springs. Being part of a website that is  as dynamic as ours ensures that you have the opportunity to get the attention of those visitors.

More importantly, folks visiting the website are typically looking for the overall Yellow Springs Experience, as opposed to looking for specific location information. As a Chamber member you are supporting our efforts to market Yellow Springs as a destination which ultimately is one of your most beneficial and cost-effective investments.

So before signing up for a new website with someone from out of town, call us to find out how we can help you for a much smaller investment. To learn more about the Marketing Plan, please contact Holly or Karen via email or at 767.2686.
