Industry News:
DOES YOUR ORGANIZATION RUN ON FEAR?
by Gilles Hilary

"Poor leadership can destroy initiative and cause unethical behavior. In 2013, the U.S. Air Force realized that more than 20 percent of the nuclear officers at Malmstrom Air Force Base had cheated on their certification exam. Many other officers knew about the problem but didn't report it. The root cause for this dangerous behavior was a culture of fear that led launch officers to believe they had to receive perfect test scores to get promoted."

What is a Trigger Code and how do I get one?

A trigger code is a unique code number required to register your GAGEtrak license. If you don't obtain a trigger code within 30 days of installing GAGEtrak, you will receive a message from GAGEtrak saying that your trial period has expired. Obtaining a trigger code will remove this expiration date. You may also require a new trigger code after reinstalling GAGEtrak because of a workstation upgrade or if GAGEtrak is moved to a new workstation.

GAGEtrak 7 Tech Tip
Gage Events in GAGEtrak 7

Tracking gage events is a great way to stay on top of what is happening to your gages and notify appropriate personnel of these events, such as a change in due date, the issuance or return of a gage, or when a gage has failed calibration. The events can trigger either automatic emails or the opening of a report or particular external file.

First, click the application icon in the upper left corner of the program window and then go to Profile Settings -> Email Settings. In the Email Method field, select SMTP Settings. The information entered in this window is provided by your IT department. After completing the form, click the Send Test Email button. If you get an error message, check the SMTP settings and try again. Note: Microsoft Exchange settings will not work. If you have Gmail or Outlook email, you will have to get settings from those providers; however we cannot guarantee that Gmail or Outlook will work because of their server security.

Now, navigate to the Gages -> Auth. Persons and Events tab. Here, you can dictate which events will apply to this particular gage.

Events are actions taken within the system that trigger an occurrence; for example, an email can be sent when the gage's status has changed. (Additional gage events can be established in Setup -> Gage Events.)

When an email event is selected in the Event field, a recipient email address needs to be entered in the Parameter field. Replace <send_to_email_address_here> with a valid email address (separate multiple email addresses with a comma). The phrases following the email address are defaults for the email subject and email body identification, respectively, which can be changed.

The Application drill-down button [...] can be used to open a particular external program and file when an event is triggered (as opposed to sending an email). For example, the Calibration Failed Event can automatically launch a Microsoft Word document that must be completed for every failed gage. In the Application field, locate and select the program executable; in the Parameter field, enter the path to the file in quotation marks as shown below.

Gage Events

Using the Gage Events functionality keeps all necessary personnel in the loop, saves time and ensures consistency. We encourage you to explore the additional capabilities of your GAGEtrak software and as always, keep an eye out for future Tech Tips.
