Aloha!
We told you last month we would have new patterns for you this month, and we do! We are so excited to bring you four great new patterns. The photo above is one of the many options you can create with our Pick Me! Pumpkins pattern.
Also new this month are many bolts of new fabric, and several new fabric packs. You will want to browse around our website soon to see what you need.
As quilters and crafters we often need to be thinking months in advance to plan for the things we want to make for special occasions and holidays. The winter holiday season means we are already ramping up for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and even New Year's Eve. With that in mind we are also showcasing things this month that you may want to get started on for the holidays.
Nancy has just returned from teaching at the Colorado Quilt Council fall retreat. Machine skills are the focus at this event in the even years, and hand skills in the odd years. "I was privileged to be their hand applique instructor this week, in a delightful almost wilderness setting outside Denver. Thirty-six quilters, from age 11 to ?? learned how to begin their traditional Hawaiian quilt. It is really a delight for me to renew friendships and make new friends in a retreat setting, where I get to stay around after dinner and sit and chat with other appliquers."
Next, both Nancy and Janice will be in Spokane, vending at the Washington State Quilters, Spokane Chapter quilt show (the largest quilt show in Eastern Washington). If you are in Eastern Washington, NE Oregon, Idaho, SE British Columbia we expect to see you at the show October 18-20. Come see our new quilts on display, get your patterns, fabric, thread, DVDs, whatever you need. We look forward to seeing you there!
E komo mai,
Welcome,
Nancy & Janice

CANDLELIGHT: 2 Fabric Applique Quilt

Celebrate!
Quilts are all about celebration. From the very first moment we envision the quilt we want to make, to the buying of the fabric, the planning, the making, the finishing, the giving, the hanging. We make quilts to celebrate special occasions, to remember places we have visited, to bring warmth and joy to the people who receive our quilts, and just to celebrate colors and shapes. When we make a quilt to celebrate a special time of year it seems we get even more pleasure out of it.
Isn't it fun to bring out our special seasonal quilts, the ones we only get to enjoy for a month, or two, each year?
If you have been putting off purchasing this pattern, wait no longer. We have put it on Special for the first time ever.
Make this quilt in other colors to celebrate Hanukkah, or birthdays. Embellish it with beads, embroidery, shimmery fabrics. One quilter embroidered the names of her family members on the candles; another appliqued the bow and candle flames in gold lame'.
TIP: If the inside curves in this quilt have you intimidated, review our helpful tips in this previous newsletter: November 2009 e-Newsletter.
With time already seeming to run short, if you want this quilt finished for this Holiday Season, here are our tips for machine applique, also in a previous newsletter: September 2011 e-Newsletter.
Candlelight, 36" x 24". Normally this pattern sells for $12.00, but for a limited time it is our Internet Special for only $10.00. Purchase your pattern here.
Many Fabric Packs to choose from for this quilt.

VICTORIAN GINGERBREAD - Hawaiian Quilt

Victorian Gingerbread
Gingerbread houses
Another happy image of the upcoming holiday season is a Gingerbread house; made with gingerbread or graham crackers, frosting, gumdrops, and colorful candies. All very fun, but messy!
Now, you can bring to mind those days of old with our Victorian Gingerbread quilt (quite a bit less messy). This was inspired by the architectural gingerbread details on a house in the town near Janice. We can see this quilt made in bright holiday colors hanging behind your display of Gingerbread Houses and Santas for something a little unexpected.
TIP: And here is another quilt to practice making inside curves. Learn our secrets to successful inside curves in our November 2009 e-Newsletter.
Victorian Gingerbread: 42" square, $12.00. Buy your pattern here.
Start here to choose your Hawaiian Quilt Fabric Pack. We chose two shades of blue for our quilt, what colors will you choose?

Piggy-backing is good!
Nancy is always eager to teach or speak at more than one location when she travels. If she is able to book multiple events, then each group shares in her travel expenses. So it is just an economical and efficient way to book. If you see that Nancy will be anywhere near* you, then contact her to see if additional engagements can be arranged during the same trip. That way EVERYONE WINS!
*Remember, Nancy is traveling from Oregon. So near means that if she will be in Florida even Virginia is near. Think regionally.
QuiltUniversity.com
If you do not live where you can take a class from Nancy in person, then perhaps a class at Quilt University would work for you.
At Quilt University there are: No tests. No grades. No pressure. Students receive a password to an online classroom with a teacher-led Discussion Forum and Student Gallery. A typical class consists of three or four lessons.
If you have been meaning to take a class at QU, this class will be your last chance! QU will close at the end of the year. Nancy's upcoming class begins - final opportunity: Watch for a future announcement about where to take Nancy's on-line classes beginning in 2014.
