Berry's Pumpkin Science
Nicole H. is only a second grader at Berry Elementary, but she's well aware of the whole selfie phenomenon. Though a cell phone with a reliable camera can't be counted among her possessions - at the moment, at least - she found an ingenuous way of making a selfie anyway. On a pumpkin. Take a look at the smiling pumpkin alongside Nicole's smiley face and you'll probably see the resemblance. "Does she look like me?" Nicole wanted to know. "Is it creative?" | Berry second grader Nicole H. and her "selfie" pumpkin at Pumpkin Science night.

Halloween - with Math
Math-o-ween events have become the standard go-to event on AISD elementary campuses because they often pair math instruction - where students solve math equations or answer other mathematical questions - with lots of Halloween-type fun. While what happens at Morton Elementary is different from Atherton, Blanton, Patrick, Speer and Thornton elementaries, which all held events this year, the objectives are the same: show the fun side of math. | Blanton teacher Tammy Smith and pre-K student Pedro M. play Spin the Jack-O-Lantern at the Blanton Math-o-ween event.

Opportunities in the AISD

During Opportunity AISD held at the Mac Bernd Professional Development Center, Leslie, now a sophomore at Arlington Collegiate High School, was telling prospective students and their parents what a great decision attending her school would be. | Students learn more about engineering during the inaugural Opportunity AISD event designed for parents and students to explore the unique programs available in the district.

Ringing in a State Title
It's hard enough to win a state track and field championship with an army of skilled performers spread out over a number of events. So what the Seguin girls' track squad did last May was quite extraordinary. They won it all with just four girls. The teammates - Tonea M., Toni G., Lateria G. and Aubrey R. - slipped on their Class 5A girls championship rings in front of the entire school during a thundering pep rally ceremony in the school gym earlier this semester. While the pep rally centered around the football team's big game the next day, the Runnin' Cougars grabbed the center of attention. | The Seguin girls show off their new track and field state championship rings after winning the 2015 Class 5A team title.
