Grandparents and Lunch         

You could say that Arlene Ferguson was pacing herself recently at Swift Elementary School when she had lunch with granddaughter Cadence C., a cute-as-a-bunny kindergartener with a permanent smile on her face. Cadence was just beside herself to be sharing the lunchroom with her grandma, even though Grandma wasn't eating a bite of food. That's because Grandma had another date with another granddaughter in, oh, an hour or so.

A Loving Tribute       

Families often prefer to keep things low-key, mild, unflashy. It's not about show; it's about intimacy. Luke Joeckel Honored      

The best way to put in perspective the honor Arlington High School alumnus Luke Joeckel received recently when the school retired his No. 72 jersey is to know that it has never been done before. Ever. For anyone.

That's quite something for the city's oldest high school with such a stellar football program. | Former Arlington High School and current Jacksonville Jaguars football player Luke Joeckel had his No. 72 jersey retired at the school.

Scaling Success     

One of the first things AVID students at Lamar High School learn when they sign up for the college prep program is what they actually sign up for: high expectations. Those involved with Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) are expected to accelerate in a number of academic areas while prepping for college entrance and careers.

At Lamar, AVID Coordinator Travis Horton likes to takes this sort of learning to a higher level. A much higher level. Like 12,000-feet high. | Lamar High School AVID seniors rest atop the peak of the 12,048-foot Touch-Me-Not Mountain in New Mexico.

Capital Needs Community Input Sought
On Dec. 10 and 11, the Capital Needs Steering Committee hosted four community dialogues to solicit feedback from community members regarding options for capital needs that will help the committee further develop those options and determine priorities for capital needs in the areas of facilities, technology, transportation, fine arts and athletics. If you were unable to attend one of the four community dialogues but would like to provide input regarding the district's future capital needs, you can complete the community dialogue questionnaire.
