Veterans Day in the AISD      

Seguin HS Veterans Day program

Veterans Day received a flurry of commemorations across AISD campuses, from elementary to high schools, with current and retired military service personnel delivering speeches, attending luncheons and being serenaded by school choirs. | The Seguin High School orchestra performed during the school's Veterans Day program.

And the Winner Is...   

Burgin ES mock election

That President Barack Obama managed to hang on to his current job in the White House came as little surprise to the voters at Sam Houston High School. Students participating in the mock election a day before Election Day selected him over opponent Mitt Romney by an overwhelming 81 to 12 percent margin. | Burgin Elementary first graders Phillis C. and Skylar E. voted in the mock election.

On any given Friday this time of year, the 200-meter oval track sitting on the east end of the Ditto Elementary campus is full of runners, going around and around, taking a breather, and revving back up to go around and around some more. | The Ditto Elementary Track Club is a popular activity for students.

Saying No to Steroids     

Ousley JH BASE event

The story of Taylor Hooton is never a pleasant one, but his father, Don Hooton, tells it anyway. Less than a year after taking steroids to gain size and strength as a baseball player, Taylor was dead, at age 17. Hooton keeps his son's story alive to help others, as he did recently during a talk to Ousley Junior High students. | Brad Horn of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Don Hooton and Rangers Pitcher Derek Holland spoke to students at Ousley Junior High.

Lip Dubbing for a Cause     

Martin HS lip dub

When Martin High School performed a lip dub two years ago, the school was all aflutter with the prospect of a YouTube presence where anyone and everyone was merely a few clicks away from checking out the video. | Martin High School students filmed their second lip dub recently. All views raise money for MD Anderson Cancer Center.
