Marriage Rate in the U.S.: Geographic Variation, 2014

 
The figure below illustrates the variation of women's marriage rate among states in 2014 in the newly released profile, Marriage Rate in the U.S.: Geographic Variation, 2014. The highest marriage rates are in the Western region (top 25%), while the lowest marriage rates are in the Eastern region (bottom 25%). Comparing 2014 to 2013, Utah continues to have the highest marriage rate (59.2), and Rhode Island continues to have the lowest marriage rate (24.3). Alaska, Wyoming, and Washington, DC had the greatest increases of marriage rates in 2014. North Dakota, South Dakota, and Hawaii had the largest decreases of marriage rates in 2014. North Carolina, Illinois, and Massachusetts had virtually unchanged marriage rates since 2013.

Guzzo Attends NCFR & SLLS Annual Meetings 

Dr. Karen Guzzo attended the annual meeting of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) in Vancouver, BC, from November 11-13. She had two research presentations: "Do Half-Siblings Affect Adolescent Risk-Taking in Stepfamilies?" (with Cassandra Dorius, Iowa State) and "Cohabiting Stepfamilies: Is Configuration Associated with Outcomes and Stability?" She also co-presented (with Claire Kamp Dush, Ohio State) a session on "How to Be Productive in a 40-Hour Work Week." Prior to the NCFR meeting, Dr. Guzzo also presented "The Role of Educational Aspirations and Attainment in Explaining Early Unintended Childbearing" (with Sarah Hayford, OSU) at the annual meeting of the Society for Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies (SLLS) in Dublin, Ireland in October.


Lin Presents Research Poster at GSA 

Dr. I-Fen Lin attended The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) annual meeting in sunny Orlando, FL, to present her NIA-funded research with Dr. Susan Brown and BGSU PhD students Matthew Wright and Anna Hammersmith. Lin presented a paper, "A Cohort Comparison of Gray Divorce: Two Decades of Change," and a poster, "Antecedents of Divorce in Later Life."
