Following Fluctuation, Divorce Rate Lowest Since 1970

The divorce rate is on track to approach the lowest level recorded since 1970 according to a new NCFMR Family Profile, Divorce Rate in the U.S.: Geographic Variation, 2014 (FP-15-18). After peaking in 1979 (22.8 divorces per 1,000 married women), the divorce rate modestly declined until 2000 when it began to rise again. The divorce rate fluctuated between 2005 and 2010, but since 2010, it has dropped steadily. In 2014, 17.6 women divorced per 1,000 married women.
