Marriage Decline Continues

Two out of five American women aged 18-49 had never been married in 2014 compared to only one in five in 1989, according to a recently released profile, Marriage in the U.S.: Twenty-five years of Change, 1989-2014. The decline in the share of ever married women over time is more pronounced among younger than among older women meaning that women are increasingly delaying marriage until later ages. In 2014, 14% of women aged 40-49 never married versus 6% of this age group in 1989.
