"Careerists" Comprise 10% of Divorced Population

Divorce has become more common among older adults. The gray divorce rate, which refers to divorces among persons ages 50 and older, has doubled since 1990. Undergraduate Research Assistant Ashley Spangler examined older adults who have experienced divorce to determine the life course timing of this event. She found that most (83%) people over age 50 who had ever divorced did so prior to age 50. Of the roughly 17% who experienced a gray divorce, more than half had also divorced earlier life course (prior to age 50). She described these individuals as "divorce careerists." American Community Survey (ACS) Website Launch Planned for June

The U.S. Census Bureau plans to launch a newly designed website for the ACS on June 23.
The website will contain terminology consistent with census.gov, allowing users to quickly find information. Users may need to update previously bookmarked pages, so ACS will provide hyperlinks to the most popular content in their announcements.
