Marriage Rate Declines During Great Recession

The marriage rate declined by 10% during the Great Recession, falling from 37.5 marriages per 1,000 unmarried persons in 2008 to 33.8 in 2010. Since then, the marriage rate has not rebounded to pre-recession levels, yielding a 28% decrease in the marriage rate since 2000. For more details about the decline in marriage rate, see the most recent NCFMR profile The Marriage Rate and the Great Recession (FP-14-18).
