Divorce Rate Triples for Those 65 and Older

Despite an overall stable divorce rate over the past 22 years, this stability belies variation by age. While the divorce rate for adults under age 35 has decreased since 1990, for adults over age 35, the rate has increased. The most dramatic increase is found among those 65 and older, tripling from 2 in 1990 to 6 per 1,000 married individuals in 2012. For more information on the age variation in the divorce rate, see FP-14-16, and for the most recent estimates of national and state variation in the divorce rate, see the latest NCFMR Family Profile Divorce Rate in the U.S., 2013.

Fee Speaks with NPR About Stigma of Formerly Obese

Holly Fee
Holly Fee, BGSU doctoral student (U.S. Census Bureau), discusses her 2012 published findings with NPR that appear in the journal Sociological Inquiry. Fee has conducted some of the only research on dating attitudes toward the formerly obese.

The biggest fear, Fee says, is they believed these formerly obese individuals would regain their weight.
