Marriage Rate Remains at 40-Year Low

In 2013, nearly 2.2 million women married, representing 3.1% of unmarried women aged 15 and older. This percentage corresponds to a marriage rate of 31 women per 1,000 unmarried women 15 years and older, a continuation of a 40-year low observed in 2011. The latest NCFMR profile examines state variation in women's marriage rate highlighting changes over the past two years. For more information, please see the new Family Profile:

Benjamin Guzzo Receives NIH Grant Award

BGSU Associate Sociology Professor Karen Benjamin Guzzo, with her colleagues Sarah Hayford (Arizona State) and Jennifer Barber and Yasamin Kusunoki (both University of Michigan) received an R01 grant award from The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Center for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) for their project Distal Determinants of Disparities in Unintended Fertility. Benjamin Guzzo and her colleagues are examining the factors that contribute to race-ethnic variation in unintended fertility. The research team is looking at differences in attitudes, knowledge, and motivation across groups, how these factors contribute to behaviors linked to unintended childbearing, and ultimately how to better target interventions.
