NCFMR Affiliates and Co-directors to Present LGBT and Same-Sex Research at PAA 2014 Annual Meeting

The legal landscape of same-sex marriage in the U.S. is shifting rapidly as indicated by the considerable variation in state-level recognition of same-sex marriages illustrated in the figure. NCFMR staff and affiliates will be presenting several papers on LGBT families, same-sex relationships, and well-being at this year's meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA) in Boston.

Associate Professor Kei Nomaguchi
Nomaguchi Recognized as Outstanding Young Scholar

BGSU awarded Associate Professor Kei Nomaguchi with the Outstanding Young Scholar Award at the 2014 Faculty Excellence Awards Ceremony and Spring Reception. Nominator Susan L. Brown notes Nomaguchi's active research agenda, "...conducting work in a core area of discipline," advancing scholarship on parenting behaviors and well-being. Her work "fills a notable gap by addressing the experiences of parents," Brown continues.

Nomaguchi's research appears in top journals and media sources, such as The New York Times and Psychology Today, and she has found success as a grant applicant. Additionally, Nomaguchi is an NCFMR Research Affiliate, a member of the CFDR, and an affiliate of the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Program.
Lee Speaks on the Limits of Marriage
Professor Gary Lee

During his Arts and Sciences Distinguished Faculty Lecture, BGSU Sociology Professor Gary Lee explains The Limits of Marriage: Why Getting Everyone Married Won't Solve All Our Problems. Lee is also working on a book about the causes of the declining marriage rate in the U.S. Much of his work involves the marital and family relations of older persons, with recent projects focusing on the precedents of aging parents living with their adult children, and the different psychological consequences of widowhood for men and women. Additionally, Lee is an NCFMR Research Affiliate.
