Welcome

The National Center for Family & Marriage Research (NCFMR), established in 2007 at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), welcomes you to our monthly electronic newsletter News and Notes.

News and Notes aims to inform you about the activities of the NCFMR. We will update you on current research findings and trends, announce training opportunities, and provide registration details for upcoming conferences and workshops.

Single, Cohabiting, and Married Households in the U.S., 1995-2012

Married couple households are declining, whereas cohabiting couple households are on the rise. Since 1995, the share of households that are married couple headed has dropped from more than half (54%) to slightly less than half (49%). At the same time, cohabiting-couple households more than doubled, increasing from just 3% to 7% of all households. The share of single-headed households remains largely unchanged, hovering at 43% in 1995 and 45% in 2012.

NCFMR/BGSU Website Migration

The NCFMR is making progress on its website migration with Bowling Green State University, in addition to fixing broken links and URLs. Restructuring improves the overall usability and browsing experience long term.

The NCFMR will continue to provide intellectual leadership, shaping the direction for new research and training. We also look forward to continuing our strong program of research collaboration and development of data resources, which provide access to some of the most up to date, cutting-edge family structure research available.
