Integrative Yoga Therapy IAYT AccreditationIAYT

It's Official!!! Integrative Yoga Therapy (800 hour program) was awarded accreditation by the International Association of Yoga Therapy. Congratulations to our students, our faculty and Joseph Le Page, our founder. We also extend a big thank you to IAYT for creating competency based educational standards for the safe and effective practice of yoga therapy.

You may have noticed that we are no longer referring to the Professional Yoga Therapy training program as 1000 hours, its actually 800 hours of training. We cannot include the admission requirements (200-hour YTT) on the certificate. The Professional Yoga Therapist certificate will include the actual course hours for Module 1 - 8.This new way of categorizing does not change the amount of training hours you actually complete. It compartmentalizes the hours in a way that clearly denotes the Professional Yoga Therapy training hours and insures that IYT is in compliance with current standards.

For students who were enrolled in or graduated from the Professional Yoga Therapy training program prior to December 31, 2013 please refer to the IAYT Grandparenting Guidelines or contact the IYT office.

Training Yoga Teachers As Compared to Training Yoga TherapistsTeachersvsTherapists

For over twenty years, the Integrative Yoga Therapy faculty has been actively involved in training Yoga teachers as well as Yoga therapists. Our experience has been that many of the Yoga tools and techniques overlap, but that the skills, learning processes and objectives are essentially distinct. The following table outlines and compares differences in a number of core skill areas.

Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT) brings together all of the most powerful Yoga tools: asana, pranayama, mudra, Yoga Nidra, mantra, and meditation into a complete package where they can be integrated and utilized for therapeutic classes directed toward specific groups and for one-on-one Yoga therapy sessions. IYT 's experiential approach to learning allows students to integrate in-depth information through a creative process resulting in a unique and comprehensive learning experience. Our intensive training format is ideal for professionals who demand clear, concise information supported by excellent home study materials including our extensive training manual. Our faculty consists of teachers who are leading experts in their respective fields. View the full outline here:

Yoga Alliance DesignationsYA

We'd like to inform you of some key changes regarding training designations with the Yoga Alliance (YA). They have changed the nomenclature from RYS 200 & 500 to RYS 200 & 300. Integrative Yoga Therapy is a registered Yoga school at both the 200 and 300-hour levels. Click here for YA credentialing information for schools.

How does this affect Integrative Yoga Therapy training programs? We have adjusted the hours of our certification programs to reflect the actual number of training hours, as designated by the Yoga Alliance. Effective November 1, 2014 we will no longer include the 200-hour pre-requisite hours on the 300 and 800-hour paper certificates that we award. Please note:

  • The 200-hour Teacher certificate training program will not be affected. Students who successfully complete the training will receive a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certificate and may apply through Yoga Alliance for the 200 RYT designation.
  • The 300-hour Advance Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga certificate will replace the 500-hour certificate.  We will no longer include the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training pre-requisite hours on the certificate. We will only certify the 300 hours (which includes; Mod 1, Mod 2 & Elective). Upon successful completion of these modules, students receive a 300-hour Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga certificate. Students can use this certificate along with their 200-hour certification to apply with the Yoga Alliance for the 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) designation.

This new way of categorizing does not change the amount of training hours you actually complete. It compartmentalizes the hours in a way that clearly denotes the training hours and insures that IYT is in compliance with current standards.

Featured Mudra:FeaturedMudra

The change in season from summer to autumn is a great opportunity to reflect on our own shifting internal landscape. As vata influences increase, we may feel an instability or restlessness and the need to ground and center. Abhaya means "absence of fear". Varada can be translated as "granting wishes." Abhaya Varada mudra is useful in cultivating fearlessness and evoking the essential nature of safety within our being. May you move forward fearlessly into the things that await you this season!
