Information About EnOcean Technology
|
EnOcean's simple yet intelligent, self-powered wireless switches and sensors are powered by energy drawn from movement, light or even changes in temperature rather than batteries. This harvested energy is used for transmitting sensor data within a building to control lighting, blinds, heating or air conditioning without the need for cabling. In addition to its eco-friendliness, the technology is easily installed and maintenance-free, ensuring unparalleled flexibility at the lowest investment and operational cost for sustainable buildings.

Greetings! ,
With the beginning of autumn the leaves start to fall - whereas the energy bills tend to rise as demand for heating increases. Automated heating control is a major requirement for today's green buildings, both in the commercial and the residential sector. But what does heating control mean nowadays? In a commercial building, HVAC automation is an integrated system that synchronizes several technical areas to a comprehensive energy management solution. The intelligence is based on data which is collected by sensors and used for different purposes. Occupancy and light intensity sensors, for example, deliver the necessary information for both presence-dependent and daylight-dependent lighting control. The same data can be used to adapt the heating and ventilation depending on the actual situation. In the residential sector, the popularity of self-learning systems increases. Here, the automation can adapt to the tenants' behavior while also taking into account external influences and the latest situations. Modern solutions incorporate the weather data and a room's frequent use into the heating control system. In the future, they might also interpret statements such as "it's too hot in here." To achieve such complexly networked systems, both areas require flexible wireless solutions offering batteryless maintenance-free operation and interoperable devices. From the very beginning, the EnOcean Alliance followed the approach of interoperability and open standard which allows products from different vendors seamlessly working together in a system. The Alliance's Technical Working Group continuously further develops the interoperability within the EnOcean eco-system. In recent times, they defined Generic Profiles, the first generic language for the communication of energy harvesting wireless solutions, and a Remote Commissioning specification, a uniform approach for the installation and long-term support of automation networks including EnOcean-based devices. These activities build the basis for our members' ongoing innovations and progresses in product development. Read about some of them in our newsletter from the third quarter 2014. Best regards Graham Martin Chairman & CEO EnOcean Alliance |

Germany: New lighting standard replaces old standard lighting

For decades, BMW has been a household name among car and motorcycle enthusiasts alike, and now the same holds true for building and automation engineering experts. While the first group associates the brand with innovative motors and vehicles, the latter thinks of a new lighting control system, which lowers the energy costs of the popular Munich-based company by around 30 %. BMW is gradually expanding this solution based
on WAGO components using EnOcean technology to make it a company-wide standard as part of its sustainability strategy.

China: Vossloh-Schwabe Shanghai office illuminates with EnOcean
The Vossloh-Schwabe Shanghai Office has adopted wireless batteryless EnOcean technology to its own lighting intelligent control system - LiCS Indoor - with the DALI protocol for the first time. The benefits reveal themselves through the perfect interoperability of the two systems and the resulting energy-saving immediately after installation. Easy configuration ensures the outstanding functionality of the VS LiCS controller, as a result of which EnOcean controls offer numerous possibilities for office lighting, school lighting, hotel lighting and workshop lighting to name a few.

Spartan Peripheral Devices: Merging Sensing, Controls and EnOcean Wireless Technologies
Many old pneumatic projects are retrofitting into modern electric systems eliminating the obsolete pneumatic controls and compressors. EnOcean wireless products are an ideal way to quickly and efficiently achieve this goal. Two pipe heating and cooling systems, especially when they are used in induction units, pose an extra challenge as it requires for the controls to change from heating to cooling as the water supplied to the coil changes from hot to cold. Spartan Peripheral Devices introduced the EnOcean based wireless control valve actuator ME8395 for 902MHz and ME8385 for 868MHz that can be mounted on the complete range of 2 way and 3 way Spartan valve bodies or the valve bodies of many other manufacturers. The actuator can be controlled from the WT913G wireless (no batteries) room temperature sensors with set point or other EnOcean based room sensor with standard EEP A5-10-03, A5-10-04, A5-10-05, With an internal automatic changeover detecting water temperature this assembly can be used as a cooling/heating control valve for two pipe systems.
