Didi-Uber's $35B Deal Could Lead To Domino Effect In Southeast Asia and India
Look for a domino effect in Southeast Asia and India from the Didi-Uber $35 billion investment deal in China.
China's leading ride-sharing app, which now owns Uber China operations, already has set the stage by investing in Asian market leaders that compete with Uber regionally.
Last year, Didi invested $350 million in Grab, Uber's chief rival in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, and is set to invest $600 million more with Softbank. Didi also injected some $30 million in Indian market leader Ola last year. Uber China selling out to Didi parallels a well-known course of American companies losing to nimble rivals in the region, particularly in China.
