China VC Midas Ranks

China Ranks High With 11 VCs On
Forbes Midas List

China is increasingly prominent in the annual Forbes ranking of top 100 venture capitalists.
This year's list shows 11 VCs in China, up from 10 last year. More tellingly, the new ranking includes 11 VCs in the U.S. who are doing deals in Asia - that's up from seven a year ago.
China VC newcomers on the list are JP Gan (#38) of Qiming Venture Partners, Allen Zhu (#65) of GSR Ventures and Bob Zhu (#94) of ZhenFund.
Newcomers to the list from the U.S. who are investing in Asia are Joe Lonsdale (#100) of 8VC and Dave McClure (#96) of 500 Startups.

Local culture not conducive to startups?
While more capital is coming into Taiwan, there's still a gap. The problem is not lack of capital but related to culture.

Papi Jiang Chinese Internet star Papi Jiang raises $2M from ZhenFund, Lighthouse Capital and more

     
   * Sequoia is showing its confidence in China tech by raising 2 new funds for China totaling $1.5B, its largest effort yet.

Bangalore-based grocery delivery service has pulled in $150 million from Bessemer, Helion, UAE' Abraaj Group, the IFC    and Sands Capital.

Google Capital has led an investment in its fourth Indian startup, Girnar Software, which runs several auto portals in India.
 
* Ebates, a subsidiary of Japanese e-commerce leader Rakuten, has acquired Shopular, a mobile product discovery app anchored in Silicon Valley.

* Gobi has joined with Malaysia Venture Capital Berhad to launch a $15.4 million to seed Southeast Asian startups

* Golden Gate Ventures has led the initial financing of ServisHero, a Malaysian provider of on-demand services via a mobile app.

LendInvest has completed a $25 million equity investment from Atomico, the technology VC firm set up by Skype
co-founder Niklas Zennstr�m

Renren has invested $4 million in OneRent, a Silicon Valley startup for online management of residential real estate rentals.
