Gift of Heat

Did you know Beverly Bootstraps helped many clients in January receive 100 gallons of oil each for heat?

With all this snow and cold that has come our way, many clients at Beverly Bootstraps feel the stress of paying for their heating bills. One client in particular, Joyce*, knows all too well the strains of not being able to pay for heat. The couple had been struggling previously and had been relying on SNAP benefits, but needed a little extra help. Joyce's husband unexpectedly passed away three weeks prior to her coming to Beverly Bootstraps for assistance. Due to her husband's passing, their joint bank accounts had been frozen since the accounts were in his name.

Our Case Managers were able to help her apply for Fuel Assistance, as well and obtain food from our Food Pantry, since she could not receive her SNAP benefits. Because her SNAP benefits were under her husband's name, Joyce was temporarily unable to access them until they were changed to her name, which Beverly Bootstraps helped her with. Beverly Bootstraps also coordinated an oil delivery since she had less than a quarter of a tank remaining and no means of getting more until her Fuel Assistance benefits came through. When Joyce, and many others, have trouble receiving state or federal assistance, Beverly Bootstraps is able to help them make ends meet and navigate through the process.

Joyce sent a thank you card to share her appreciation of the assistance Beverly Bootstraps provided her, as well as knowing that she had someone to talk to when a need arose. Now Joyce can enjoy a warm home this winter and peace of mind that when she is in need, Beverly Bootstraps is just a phone call away.

Exciting News!
After School

There are lot's of fun and exciting things happening in our After School program here at Beverly Bootstraps! The Homework Club had a visit from Tony Toledo, a storyteller from Beverly. He told the children a few stories with life lessons, as well as tapping into their creative side by doodling on paper cups.

There are a few middle school students who are participating in their school science fair and will be working on their projects at Beverly Bootstraps in the upcoming weeks. We are excited to see what they will be working on, as well as helping them learn through this process.

The Wicked Art Bar in Beverly has generously donated their time and space during spring break for the children to go and participate in an event. The details are still being worked out, but it is sure to be an exciting opportunity for the children at Beverly Bootstraps!

We are very appreciative to have received a $1,500 grant from the Terracon Foundation. Beverly Bootstraps was nominated for the grant by a Terracon employee, James Matz, a former volunteer in our Food Pantry and long-time supporter. James has always been very fond of our Food Pantry and how much it helps the individuals who come to get food at Beverly Bootstraps. We are grateful that James thought to nominate Beverly Bootstraps and that the Terracon Foundation awarded us their grant!
