To Our Friends & Neighbors
Cooking Matters!

Did you know that the average graduate of our Cooking Matters course who "sometimes" used the Nutrition Facts label before taking the course, now uses it "almost always," which is a 100% increase?

For many of our clients, grocery shopping can be one of the most stressful parts of their week. They pass the fresh produce because it is more expensive than processed food that lacks the nutrients of fresh foods. Children come home to a fast food dinner or something that was heated up in the microwave that won't give them the essential nutrients for growth.

The Beverly Bootstraps Cooking Matters course helps our clients learn about smart shopping and better cooking habits.

"We both learned a lot and gained practical skills that we are using to improve our diets, our health, and our lives," said Mary and Kelly.* "We both miss going to the Cooking Matters classes. We had a ball and cannot thank you enough."

Our Cooking Matters program is hands-on.  Participants actually cook meals during the class, make a budget, make grocery lists and visit the grocery store with a professional.  Participants learn together each week, prepare the meals together and eat together.  In addition, participants leave each class with the ingredients needed to make the meal prepared in class, at home. 100% of our Cooking Matters students made a recipe from class at home for their families, and they plan on sharing what they learned.

One of the class's favorite recipes were the Turkey Chili with Vegetables. For more recipes from the Cooking Matters program, click here!

The Cooking Matters program is generously funded by the North Shore United Way Women in Action and the Women's Fund of Essex County.

Thank You
Supporting the Summers of Local Youth

Through the generosity of local organizations, Beverly Bootstraps will be able to support local youth in Beverly and Manchester-by-the-Sea this summer.

The Mosley Foundation has donated to Beverly Bootstraps to benefit our Summer Camp program (as well as many others). With their donation, Beverly Bootstraps will be able to send children in Beverly to summer camp, where they can learn and meet new friends over the summer.

And the North Shore Community Health Network has awarded a grant to Beverly Bootstraps to help provide a free lunch to children in need. With school out of session, many Beverly families are struggling to replace the free or reduced-price school lunches upon which their children rely. The Summer Lunch Program helps provide these families facing a summer of hunger and perhaps unhealthy choices with a nutritious lunch option for their school-age children. With the grant from North Shore Community Health Network and the collaboration between Beverly Public Schools Food Services, Beverly Recreation Department, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, USDA and Project Bread this program is able to help these families.

Through these generous donors, we are able to make everyone's summer a little brighter!

Doodle Donations

Thank you to the second grade children of St. John the Evangelist School who so thoughtfully made beautiful drawings that they sold in order to raise money for Beverly Bootstraps.

The children came up with the idea that they wanted to sell drawings to make a donation to help their community. We are grateful for their generosity and creativity to help those in need. We will enjoy looking at the wonderful drawings and thinking of their great efforts to support us!

St. John's Episcopal Church Donates Over 1,250 lbs of Food!
Thank you St. John's Episcopal Church for donating over 1,250 pounds of food to our Food Pantry. During the summer months we are in need of more food drives like St. John's Episcopal Church. With children being home from school the extra meals and snacks can be a strain on a family's budget. This food will help alleviate stress those families feel during the summer months.

Thank you St. John's Episcopal Church for supporting Beverly Bootstraps!
