One of the most important things that I remind the adults in Sprouting Melodies of is that you do not have to have a musical background to participate. As Sprouting Melodies Providers and music therapists, we believe that everyone is inherently musical and every person has the right to be a music maker. Your children get the most out of class when you (their caregiver, parent, aunt, uncle, etc.) sing with them. This shared experience in singing and playing is a powerful bonding experience. Your little one learns so much from you because you are their home base, their rock, their comfort zone. The more we model singing and moving together, the stronger the drive will be for your child to sit down with you and sing along. 

I recorded the song "Sit Down With Me" by Elizabeth Schwartz below which has a familiar tune to it! It is used in the song "The Ants Go Marching." I sang this song with my Family Sprouts class last week. It has a strong and driving rhythm that supports our movement and involvement in the music. This song invites us to join together in common intent. Just as the ants are determined to march down, this song allows your child to demonstrate their determination and purpose through the music. Children like to feel that their actions make a difference and their work is noticed as much just as much as we do. 

Find some time this week to sit down with your little one and sing this song! And remember, everyone can make music!
