Ta-da! December 8, 2015
| |
Good morning,
It was so great to hear that many of you came to watch, or participate in the tree lighting and our home for the holidays sing-along/open mic event over the weekend. Even though I could not be there, I heard great stories from both Meredith and Laura about all of the wonderful music you were able to make together.
At this time of year the holidays can create a lot of stress with all of the things that you juggle, whether it be work, daily tasks, holiday shopping, or things going on in your personal lives. One thing that our team is working on during this hectic time of the year is really taking a moment to celebrate the accomplishments we make whether it be grand or small. This is something that we as adults need to do for ourselves, but also something so important for young children.
In class when your child sings an entire song for the first time, hits the drum for the first time, or successfully waits their turn without having a meltdown, those are the moments that we need to celebrate with enthusiasm and praise! The music that your children make is their "work." One instance that I noticed a significant increase in participation in class was when we celebrated with a shout for joy when one child said "boo" for the first time into the pumpkin during our Halloween song. That didn't go unnoticed by the other kids. It actually helped to encourage the other children to follow suit. They observed what was expected and got that immediate reward. You could see the pride on their face as if they were saying "Ta-da!" Rejoicing for our accomplishments is healthy for people of all ages, so take that time during class, at home or at work to celebrate your and your little one's "Ta-da" moments!
I'll see you in class!
