Sprouting Melodies Weekly
Notes from Kristina

I'll Be Marching....                                                 September 22, 2015
Good morning,

You may notice that within the structure of our Sprouting Melodies classes we include some type of gross motor movement experience where we get up and march, run, and jump. Why do we do this? Moving with your children, especially when you are holding your baby before the stage of independence, is a great experience of closeness. The music provides a space for a shared activity both with other adults and children. Marching, running, and jumping all together also helps to cement the peer attachment.

The music during the gross motor experience has a driving tempo with a steady beat. Not all children naturally develop a steady beat, though it is so important for organizing and regulating. Internalizing a steady beat prepares you for life and learning and affects your ability to read, to write, to walk, to talk, and to move around in your environment. When participating in the gross motor movements in class, be sure to find that strong, steady beat, and help your child to feel that pulse if you are holding them. This is great practice for them as they grow and develop!

I'll see you in class!
~Kristina
