Good morning,
It's summertime! That means it's time to travel! Whether that means taking a day trip to the beach, a long car trip to visit family, or a flight across the country, it is challenging managing the stress of travel with a little one, or two!
Music is a great tool that is structured, familiar, and predictable, but also flexible. You can use a familiar song from class and change a few words to reflect what you or your child are doing to help with transitions and bonding with unfamiliar people.
Below, I recorded a video of "Wiggly Jiggle Car," by Elizabeth Schwartz. We use this song as a lap ride in class, but you can use it at home when trying to playfully get your child into the car seat without a big fight! Lap rides are also great for airport terminals when you are waiting to board a flight, or even on the plane. We have adapted the "Fire Truck Song" so many times with suggestions from families and their kids. We now have the police car version, the ambulance version, the rocket ship version, and I bet by the end of the summer we will have an airplane version! Have fun with the music from class and you will be surprised what you can create at home to make transitions and travel easier this summer.
Come and hear our "Fire Truck Song" and all of its verses along with other great songs at our Basket and Blanket Concert on the lawn of the Melrose Public Library tonight from 6-7. In case of rain, the concert will be held inside of the First Congregational Church on West Foster Street. We hope to see you there. Otherwise....
I'll see you in class! ~Kristina Kristina Barbo, MT-BC Board Certified Music Therapist Roman Music Therapy Services, LLC 423 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176 781-665-0700 Office kristina@romanmusictherapy.com www.romanmusictherapy.com
