Teachable Moment March 17, 2015
| |
Good Morning,
Last week, I was talking with a parent from one of my classes. She brought up a wonderful question which I though could be a great teachable moment for all of our families. She asked me, "Should I be offended if my child isn't sitting with me during the class?" No! Children are naturally curious. It is important for children to explore their environment, other relationships, and themselves apart from their caregiver. This is how children learn, grow to be confident, and become more self-aware. The best thing you can do when your child is not sitting with you is to participate in the music and model for them. They may move away to explore, but you are their rock, they will always come back! It's natural to feel sad if your child isn't attached to you during class, but just remember they are discovering their own identity and you are there to support their learning. I'll see you in class! ~Kristina Kristina Barbo, MT-BC Board Certified Music Therapist Roman Music Therapy Services, LLC 423 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176 781-665-0700 Office kristina@romanmusictherapy.com www.romanmusictherapy.com
