Good Morning,
I absolutely love when families share stories with me about how their little ones are making meaningful connections with their world outside of class using the music they are learning in class. I have heard stories from parents about how their child said and signed "more" at home after having learned it in class for the first time.
A nanny of one child told me that at another play group, the child she cares for was the only one to help clean up the toys while the nanny sang the clean up song from Sprouting Melodies. One story that really stood out to me this week was shared with me by a grandmother of two little girls who have attended Sprouting Melodies classes for several sessions. Both siblings attended my Family Sprouts class a year ago, and now that the older child is in school, the younger one goes to Laura's class with her grandmother. Just last week while at home, the older sibling took her younger sibling's hands and sang the shaking hands song they both learned together in my Family Sprouts class one year ago. She had not heard the song since that class! It is heartwarming to hear about the meaningful moments and connections these siblings formed in our Sprouting Melodies class, and that they have this special memory and bond through the music even at home.
Bonding through music is more natural than you think. You don't have to be a trained singer to make music with your baby! Sing with us in class and you will remember the songs better when you get home. Sing at home so you can continue to make those meaningful connections with your child and family through music making. Here is some great information on bonding with your child through music from Zero To Three.org.
It is so important to celebrate those meaningful moments in your children's lives. Sprouting Melodies is not just about making music for 45 minutes. It is a lasting bonding experience, that can be taken home, can be embedded in your family's life, and can help build those meaningful connections. Do you have a meaningful moment story to share? We want to hear it! Have a great week, and I'll see you in class! ~Kristina Kristina Barbo, MT-BC Board Certified Music Therapist Roman Music Therapy Services, LLC 423 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176 781-665-0700 Office kristina@romanmusictherapy.com www.romanmusictherapy.com
