Transitional Objects November 17, 2014

Good Morning,
Transitional objects such as loveys can play an important role in some children's development. In our classes, we usually tell caregivers to leave everything out in the waiting room because for older children who are on the move, there is nothing more distracting than a diaper bag or purse full of goodies to get into. The exception to this rule is for those children who just need to have that special toy with them to help them transition in and out of class. Not all children need a transitional object to enter into a new environment and be comfortable. Children have different personalities. Some kids need that extra comfort in order to be successful in transitions, and others are more flexible in new situations. The transitional object should be a source of comfort so that the child can fully participate in class, not a distraction.
Have a great week, and I'll see you in class!
