Are you ready...?
Message from Dean Ira A. Jackson
February 2015

Are you ready ....

for the snow to start to melt?
for the T to return to full service?
for some bipartisan consensus in Washington?
for peace and reconciliation in the Middle East?
for meaningful, quantifiable progress on global climate change?

If so, we are ready for you.

Student Profiles
Salif Mangane
International Relations Master's Degree Program

Meet three of our McCormack Scholars

A Fulbright scholar from Mauritania, Salif Mangane graduated second in his class at the University of Nouakchott. With a scholarship from the government, he went on to Ibn Tofail University in Morocco to complete a master's degree in English language and culture.

While a graduate student, he became especially interested in the sphere of international relations. Courses on theories of culture, nations and identity, cultural mediation, and peacebuilding heightened his interest in learning how to shape future economic and cultural development and how to use cross-border approaches to the relationship between people of different backgrounds.

At the McCormack Graduate School, he wishes to specialize in international security and use theories and concepts in international relations to better understand and explain the dynamics of world politics. He plans to seek a career in diplomacy and peacekeeping, most likely in West Africa.

Pamela Lomax
Public Administration (MPA) Program

Pamela Lomax received her BA in human services management from Lesley University.

Her professional experience includes a wide range of team leadership, budget management, recruitment, advancement, and organizational development for the State of Massachusetts, MIT, Suffolk, and Harvard Universities. Lomax currently serves as deputy auditor for administration and finance and is on the leadership team in the office of Massachusetts' State Auditor Suzanne Bump.

A resident of Hyde Park, she has wide experience in community service, including the creation of a start-up development plan to support the budget for a Boston charter school and serving as founding treasurer for a Cambridge charter school. She has previously served as a trustee for the Chestnut Hill School and the Fessenden School and has been an active volunteer in diversity and inclusion programs in private K-12 schools.

Ian Livingstone

Gerontology PhD Program

Ian Livingstone received a BS in health science studies at Quinnipiac University. He also earned an MBA in healthcare management and interned at the VA hospital in Newington, CT.

Following graduation, he moved to Boston to work at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in the Pathology Department as a billing compliance analyst where he sparked an interest in gerontology.

Livingstone's research interests center on prevention of age-related diseases, behavioral health, and productive aging, allowing him to combine his education in science and business administration with the policy work he has done.

Working with Professor Edward Miller, Livingstone is researching how nursing homes are portrayed in the national media.
