"Columbia Point is the place to be!"

Message from Dean Ira A. Jackson
|
 | Governor Deval Patrick with Chancellor J. Keith Motley at the MassResults Conference on June 26. |
As UMass Boston celebrates its 50th anniversary, all signs point to this being our time. From humble beginnings when the campus was first constructed on what was then a rather bleak toxic waste site surrounded by a polluted harbor next to a very troubled public housing project, the University of Massachusetts Boston has finally come into its own−energetic, important, ascendant.
To paraphrase Vicki Kennedy's words at the opening of a major conference on bipartisanship that was broadcast on CSPAN: "Here on the beautiful campus of the University of Massachusetts Boston, next door to the magnificent John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Study of United States Senate currently under construction ... Columbia Point is the place to be..."
