Moving Forward

Several weeks ago, Mt. Bethel appointed a subcommittee to explore the financial possibilities regarding the purchase of the Jewish Community Center, 33 acres, located six miles north of Mt. Bethel's location on Lower Roswell Road.

After completing their due-diligence with the Academy, holding discussions with financial institutions, the subcommittee reported its finding to Mt. Bethel's Finance Committee.

Basically, the report stated that after the fundraising efforts on the part of the Academy and members of Mt. Bethel, the remaining debt can be easily carried through Mt. Bethel's existing Operating Budget of $9.7 million. The Finance Committee voted unanimously to recommend the purchase of the property and existing buildings to the Administrative Council.

Mt. Bethel's Administrative Council will meet February 23, at 3:30pm on the site of the Jewish Community Center property. This meeting will include a tour of the property and its existing structures, cookout, report of the Finance Committee, and a vote to endorse the option to purchase the property. A vote of the Ad Council will be a recommendation to the Mt. Bethel Church Conference's final vote to be held on March 2, 12:15pm in the Sanctuary.

The vote of the Church Conference will be the final determination regarding the proposal. Each and every member, "in good standing," of Mt. Bethel has a vote. However, according to The Book of Discipline, only members attending the Church Conference will be allowed to vote. No proxies are allowed. Our District Superintendent has authorized this Church Conference to be conducted by Mt. Bethel's senior pastor.

Now, to refresh your memory regarding the Jewish Community Center property. The property is comprised of 33 acres of land that includes two gyms, classroom space, administrative space, cafeteria, tennis courts, swimming pool, showers, lake, obstacle course, and three existing athletic fields with lights. After some remodeling, Mt. Bethel's Academy will be able to expand immediately, adding a ninth grade. Our Recreational Ministries will be allowed to double its current operations. Our Worship and Christian Educational Ministries (Sunday School, Bible Studies, small groups) will be allowed opportunities for new growth through the Jewish Community Center property, that will become "Mt. Bethel North."

In addition, Mt. Bethel has been allowed to begin "streaming" our worship services, live, as soon as possible!

Please continue to pray for Mt. Bethel, its leaders and the expansion of God's Kingdom.

May our willingness to follow match His willingness to lead.

Senior Pastor
