2013

Mt. Bethel's year-end review is remarkable! As we look back over 2013, we can see God's Hands guiding each ministry, and we celebrate what He has accomplished through Mt. Bethel.

Our Children's Ministry averaged 30 infants through two-year-olds in Sunday School Nursery. Our children, ages 3 to 10, averaged 750 per Sunday - enrollment is 1,250. Our VBS in June was close to 1,000, and our Family VBS in July had 63 families participate each night. The Children's Wednesday program, SPLAT, averaged 120 each week. Our Student Ministry averaged 300 on Sunday evenings. The students are also invested in 50 Life Groups. Last year's DNOW had 550 participants. Mt. Bethel's future looks very promising!

Our Adult Life groups grew to 463 last year! In addition, we had 10 year-long Bible studies and averaged nearly 500 adults in Sunday School. We started three new adult Sunday School classes that average 40 per class.

Mt. Bethel's mission trips overseas hosted 300 adults over ten trips. Our student mission trips had 125 participants over three trips. Our mission budget for the year spent well over $1 million plus $500,000 in Conference apportionments.

Our Recreational Ministry was maxed out each season with an average of 1200 participants. Our Preschool enrollment is 380 and maxed out! Our Day Care is full with 90 per day.

All of this was accomplished in spite of a weak budget. Last year's income was $9,021,738 - down from $9,500,000 in 2012. This year's pledges now match last year's total income with 1,348 received pledge cards out of 2,679. The proposed operating budget for 2014 is $9.7 million, with the potential of $10.5 million in income. God has indeed blessed Mt. Bethel to be a blessing!

What will 2014 bring? We face many exciting opportunities. Our local missions could double with our M25 efforts. Our efforts to help curb Osborne High School's dropout situation through a project called "Fifteen" should show great progress. Our local mission efforts will see much more involvement through St. Philip. Our Backpack Ministry is already over 500 per week! Hopefully that will double in 2014.

Mt. Bethel has never been stronger and God will use us in mighty ways in advancing His Kingdom.

God Bless You and thank you for your faithfulness,

Randy Mickler

What is your family's biggest challenge? Many are struggling with making Christ the center of their lives in the fast-paced, busy world in which we live. We hope you'll join us for a new church-wide sermon series entitled "Priorities." On January 26, February 2, and February 9, our entire church family will be focusing on how to make Christ the center of our lives in three main areas - our time, our stuff, and our communication. Our adult Sunday school classes, Life Groups, and children and students will also be focusing on these topics during these three weeks.

Additionally, Catherine Hickem will be joining us on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm (January 22, January 29, and February 5) for a three-week seminar series entitled, "Priorities: Participating with God." Each week, she will focus on three topics: time, material possessions (or "stuff"), and communication. Catherine will be presenting practical ideas that we can implement at home to help our homes and families become more Christ-centered. The seminar is free, but please go online to register.

Mt. Bethel Children's Sunday School has started a mission project: collecting funds for UMCOR's "Mother and Child Survival project." The children made collection cups and took home the cups and a letter to parents on January 12.  There will be a competition between elementary grades, and big collection buckets will be out Sunday, January 19 - February 23. This is a project through the United Methodist Committee on Relief, the mission arm of the United Methodist Church.

The Administrative Council will be consecrated at the 9:30 or 11:00 worship services on Sunday, January 26. They will meet at 12:15pm in the Fellowship Hall for their first business meeting of the year.

Their first study will be the church-wide Priorities series, and then they will be going through "The Story" by Max Lucado. If you are interested and have a middle or high school student, there is a new 11:00 Sunday School class being offered for students in the Cove. For more information, please contact Lauren Eden.

You may be surprised how much they resemble some staff members and friends you have seen in an adjacent pew or even the pulpit! Our middle & high school choir is sponsoring a fun evening of entertainment, delicious dessert, and both a silent and a live auction. The students will be serving dessert, coffee, and tea while some very dedicated church and staff members perform for you. Tickets are only $15, and are available online or in the Bookstore. There is no obligation to purchase anything from the auction. Please plan to join us for this fun evening, and help the youth choir raise some money for their 2014 summer tour and local missions.
