Be Christmas

Christmas is the most celebrated holiday of the year for billions of people. But what is the purpose of Christmas? What makes Christmas so special to those who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ?

Advent, the beginning of the church year, starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. It is a time of preparation, anticipation, and hope as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. This advent season, we want to take a journey with you through a series of sermons centered around what it means to "Be" Christmas: from being the subject who controls all other things to being a person who is shaped by the presence, purpose, and power of God in all things.

For many of us, when we think about Christmas, we think about lights, snow (even though we live in GA), caroling, and angels. Most of these memories are surrounded with images in our minds and hearts. For some these are positive memories of family and friends coming together and for others, these memories are hard as we remember those who will not be physically present with us this year. Soren Kierkegaard once said, "Life must be lived forwards, but it can only be understood backwards." As we take this journey together, we want to look deep into our hearts and minds and to challenge all of our memories. We want to focus on how Christ meets us in these places to bring about what it truly means to "Be" Christmas.

December 1 begins this season as we come together as a church family for a "Celebration Sunday." We will have all ages in the Sanctuary singing, praying, and celebrating the coming of our King. After the services, we will have an opportunity for you and/or your family to go to the Fellowship Hall for cider, hot chocolate, and some treats as you make your own advent wreath to light in your home.

Jesus inseparably joined loving God with loving others. To close this season, we will have the opportunity to serve. Members will have the opportunity to choose to attend a Christmas Eve Eve service (on December 22) in order, to make room on Christmas Eve for those who have no church family. This provides room on Christmas Eve for members who will be inviting others outside the church. It also gives opportunities for members who aren't attending with guests to serve and welcome others into our church family on Christmas Eve.

Please help us to be a church that longs to "Be" Christmas this season for all those around us.

Rev. Kelly Brumbeloe

Wallets, purses, fleeces, and hand-held games are also needed. Thank you in advance for your donation and making this Christmas a little brighter for someone else!
