It's A Spiritual Issue

Randy

Stewardship is directly linked to discipleship. The stewardship of our resources is a spiritual issue, not a financial issue. The dollar amount a person gives is a financial issue. A person cannot give what he/she does not have. The quality of that decision is determined by the spiritual condition of the person's heart. Jesus spoke very clearly about the issues of money and possessions. He considered the use of our money and possessions to be a matter of paramount importance . . . and so must we.

Last August, Mt. Bethel was facing a new budget, based on pledges received for the next year, with a $500,000 reduction of the current year's budget. The Finance Committee decided to reject the proposed budget and appeal to the congregation again. Thus, the new, re-do, Commitment Sunday.

Too many of us are victims of bad giving habits. God challenges us to test Him regarding the issue of stewardship. According to His Word, our responsibility as a faithful steward is to return 10% of our income for the advancement of His Kingdom. His guarantee is whatever we give to Him, He multiplies. If you give God your talent, He'll multiply your talent. If you give God your energy, He'll multiply your energy. If you give God your time, He'll multiply your time. If you give God your money, He'll multiply your money. If you give God your relationships, He'll multiply your relationships. Whatever you give to God, He will multiply and give it back.

Jesus exemplified God's multiplication promise with the feeding of the 5,000 with the fish and bread offered to Him by a little boy. Remember? After everyone had been fed, they collected twelve additional baskets of leftovers. Wow! Now that's what I call multiplication!

It's a spiritual issue. Do you have faith? Will you celebrate God's ability to multiply???

Our Commitment Sunday is November 3.

Randy
