Mt. Bethel UMC

July 28, 2013

Growing up in my small home town of Lanett, Alabama, the phrase "I dare you" was used very often. The young boys and girls in my neighborhood enjoyed living life on the edge.  "I dare you" was a challenge to do something that seemed risky. Of course, if the challenge seemed a little too risky, the one being dared would up the ante by saying, "I double dog dare you."

If the double dog dare was accepted, that meant the person who had presented the original dare was willing to take on the same challenge he or she had dared the other person.

I like double dog dares because they take us out of our comfort zones. Most of the time, the focus of a dare is on something external - a physical challenge. Today I want to issue a double dog dare to our church family.  I double dog dare you to open up your hearts and hear from God - listen to Him and take a step of faith in the direction He is leading you. The challenge is risky, but our whole church family is here to take it with you.

See you Sunday at the "double dog dare you" place,

                Steven Brumbeloe
                Associate Pastor

Our Joys & Concerns

The Paschal Candle burns in honor of the life of Jack Ritter, now living in the Father's House.

The altar flowers are given to the Glory of God and in celebration of the girls who live at the Deborah House near Timisoara, Romania. Our short-term mission team is traveling to visit with them August 3-11.

We express Christian sympathy to  Wayne, Lucy, Jeff, Jack & Chloe Beacham in the loss of Wayne's son, Chris Beacham; to Ed, Betty & Caroline Madden in the loss of Betty's mother, Mary B. Jones; to Jess Michel in the loss of her father, Rex Michel; and to JoAnn Ritter in the loss of her husband, Jack Ritter. May God hold you in the palm of His hand during this time of grief.

Recently hospitalized:  Queenie Jones.

We wish to congratulate Karen Piwowarski & Craig Benton who were married in the Chapel on July 20, 2013 by Rev. Jon Ponders.
