Mt. Bethel UMC

June 16, 2013

The old adage still rings true "Time flies when you're having fun!"
I remember it as if it took place last week - Bishop Watson and I met.

It was the summer of 1999. He gave me a list of five larger churches to contact praying that they would help give us seed money to get the first Camp Hope off of the ground. I contacted Mt. Bethel to see if I could talk with the mission's pastor; the receptionist, Mary, put me through to the "Right Reverend Banks Brazell." Banks invited me to lunch so he could hear all about my vision to work with the children of inmates in the State of Georgia. He also invited the Sr. Pastor - Randy Mickler. We met at the Atlanta Bread Company on Roswell Road. I did the best "Holy sales job" humanly possible. At the end, Randy said to me, "Could you use a house?" To which I said, "Well, that's kind
- but my husband and I already have one." He laughed and said, "No, I meant that we have a lodge at the back of our property and I was thinking that you could use that to house your ministry..."

Fourteen years later, that house is our kidz2leaders, inc. d/b/a Camp Hope home and you all helped me put into reality and bring to fruition a vision that God had laid on my heart. Fourteen years - wow! Do you know how many buckets that represents? How many times we have laughed and cried together? Do you remember when I talked Randy and Wil into performing the "Blues Brothers" in my musical, "Baby Brother Jesus" where Randy did cart-wheels and played a harmonica (He really did that!) while Wil Parker sang, "Under the Law." And how about the time Jane Watkins wrote the play, "Staff Infection" and I dressed up like Mrs. Potts and sang "Beauty and the Beast" while Randy and Debbie Pierce danced across the stage? You know, the jury is still out on which one was the Beauty and which one the Beast. Just kidding!

The memories, the joys and the laughter will be forever etched on my heart.

Oh, how I have loved you all and will miss your daily presence in a mighty way.

As I leave, my prayer will be, "May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other."

God Bless!
Rev. Diane H. Parrish
