"I DARE YOU"

A couple of verses from Psalm 37 have been a real blessing to me this past week, and I want to share them with you.  Verses 3 & 4 say:  "Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."   Many times our faith journey has bumps along the way, and if we allow them, they can be deterrents to spiritual growth. But if we are sensitive to the wooing of the Holy Spirit of God, we can see that these bumps are really spring boards to a much deeper relationship with Him.  James 1:2-4 say:  "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking in anything."

God is calling us to intimacy with Him.  He desires that we draw close to Him and get to know Him as a Friend.  Placing our trust in the Lord is an act of our will because of faith we place in the Heavenly Father.  He has our best interests at His very heart and wants only good for us. In fact, He wants the best for us not just the good.  So therefore, we are assured that the closer we get to God the more we will enjoy the things God has for us because we will soon have the heart of God.  When our heart and His heart are in communion, He will give us the desires of our heart because they are really His desires.

Blessings and bumps go hand in hand because bumps are the avenue through which we can claim God's blessings.  Bumps enable us to see God at His best because we see His comfort and provision when we are struggling and hurting.  The best way to summarize what I am saying is:  "The only way to know real joy is to also know deep sorrow."  To know the joy of the Lord is to know the depth of his comforting love in times of trouble.

So when I do not understand the reasons for my bumps, I just continue to do those things that God has laid on my heart.  I have discovered that there is light at the end of the tunnel.  There is victory in defeat and there is joy that comes with the morning.  Therefore, "Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in safe pastures."  This is the reward of faithfulness.

For the next four Sundays in June the sermons will be challenging you to dare to do the impossible in your relationship and faith in God.  We have a great church with a great opportunity to change the world for Christ as we put "Compassion into action through the power and presence of Jesus Christ so that our community and world may be changed."   "I dare you" to be faithful and obedient to His call in your life.  Your reward for faithfulness will be a more intimate relationship with Christ.  God bless you as you dare!

Mt. Bethel's Career Ministry will meet on Tuesday, June 11, at Mt. Bethel's Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road near the corner of Woodlawn Drive).  Resume reviews begin at 6:30 and the Presentation starts at 7:30pm.  The evening's topic is Leveraging Technology.  Don't just hit apply, use technology as a networking tool to meet hiring managers.  By now you know that the Internet has changed job search strategy completely.  Use this to your advantage by ensuring that you can be found online easily by recruiters and hiring managers and that your brand is clear.  This session provides an inside look into how Recruiters search for job seekers and how you can leverage job boards, search engines, and social networking to expand access and boost your odds of success in your job hunting expedition.  We'll also cover what your information looks like to recruiters when they're trying to fill an open position.  Last, after attending this session, you will know how to go beyond just the company website by researching your target companies and open positions via Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn.  For more information visit www.mtbethel.org/careerministry or contact Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 / kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org.
