Mt. Bethel UMC

June 2, 2013

                                 Just These Thoughts . . .
Randy
To tell you how much I appreciate you and how appreciative we (Diane & I) are to our Lord for allowing us to be in ministry with Mt. Bethel.

As our fiscal year comes to a close this June, we celebrate one of the strongest years in Mt. Bethel's 173 year history. Our Children's Ministries are flourishing, with the Day Care, Preschool, Academy, Sunday School celebrating a strong year. Our Youth Ministries are experiencing one of the smoothest transitions ever, as Justin Smith moves to take another position and Cary Farrington assumes the role of Director of Student Ministries. Our High School students are devoted to the Student Ministry and our Middle High Ministries show great promise. Our Missions Ministries are stronger than ever, with Local Ministries, through M25 (college workers from across the country) enrolling 250 for this summer's work with the homeless. St. Philip is completing its preparations with additional showers and restrooms that will allow us to house M25, and add to our ability to aid in rescuing the homeless in dangerous weather. Our youth and adult mission trips have excelled in every way, as well. Our Recreation Ministries continue to operate with a waiting list for every sport. The only thing holding this ministry back is a lack of additional fields and gyms!

Now, what about the less than wonderful news? We average 33% of our membership in worship attendance. We are facing a budget shortfall of $350,000 in pledging next year's budget (pledge cards for 2013-14 continue to trickle in). We are facing a budget deficit for this current year ending in June of $492,239. Our Adult Life Groups and Sunday School classes are seasonally strong. Adult Bible classes are also seasonally activated. These are areas we are all needing to address, and we will! Hopefully, when I return from vacation, everything will have improved!! (Perhaps the solution to strengthening our weaker areas is for the senior pastor to be away more often . . . I'm teasing!).

Mt. Bethel is in good hands, God's Hands, and for that reason we can celebrate today and face tomorrow unafraid.

God Bless You,
Randy
