Mt. Bethel UMC

May 12, 2013

Randy He was nine years old and sitting in the principal's office. He was accused of saying some pretty ugly words. It wasn't unnatural for the boy to be guilty of bad deeds. He liked to fight! He was stubborn, unruly and a general pain to several adults.

Now he was in trouble, the worst kind of trouble for a fourth grader. He was in the principal's office - can you remember how that felt? This principal was known for his paddle and his willingness to use it. The principal, Mr. Kinsey, had been a sergeant in the Korean War. He knew all about boys.

"Son," he said, "I'm going to call your mother."
"Why are you going to call her?" asked the boy.
"Because she can help me deal with you. She can spank you or I'll spank you. Either way, you're going to get a whipping!"

The boy's mother walked into the principal's office and surmised the situation. The boy was sitting in the chair, head down, feet not touching the floor, waiting to be beaten to within an inch of his life.

"Mr. Kinsey, what's the problem here?" asked the mother.
"Your boy called his teacher a _ _ _ _ _, and one of us is going to punish him!"
"Randy," asked the mother, as she walked over and with one hand cupped the boy's chin and raised his head so she could look into his eyes, "did you call Mrs. Tadlock that name?"

The boy looked into his mother's face, shook his head and said, "No, Mama." They looked at each other the way a mother and son sometimes do.

"Mr. Kinsey, I believe my son and I'm going to take him home now and I don't want to hear anymore about this, do you understand?!"
"Yes, Mrs. Mickler, whatever you say. Have a good day, Mrs. Mickler, and thank you for coming by," said Mr. Kinsey, smiling.

All of us have special memories - - beautiful memories of a special mother's love. This Sunday I invite you to hug her, hold her and tell her you love her - - while you can.

See you Sunday,
Randy

You will leave with a new sales and marketing approach to your search, plus a process and the tools to successfully position yourself to compete. For more information visit the Mt.
