Mt. Bethel UMC

April 21, 3013

As we continue our sermon series "Gear Up," Putting on the Armor of God, we welcome our 43 members of the Spring Confirmation class into full church membership. In a day when church membership is regarded more as a badge of social acceptability, it's hard to picture the price early Christians paid for their faith. When one considers Christ's first followers, some searching questions come to mind. Would I join the church if it meant cutting myself off from my family and friends? They did. Would I line up with the Christians if they were looked down upon socially as outcasts? They did. Would I call myself a Christian if that label closed the doors of business opportunities? They did. Would I endure persecution and rejection for my faith in Christ? They did.

May we never forget the sacrifices those early Christians faced and embraced for their faith.

God bless you, Spring Confirmation class of 2013. We welcome you to the Cause of Christ!

Senior Pastor

The Career Ministry of Mt. Bethel UMC will meet on Tuesday, April 23, at the Mt. Bethel Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA  30068).  Resume reviews begin at 6:30pm/ Presentation at 7:30pm. The topic for the evening is How to Interview & Negotiate Pay. Most job seekers find dealing with pay issues to be one of the most challenging components of their job search. How do you address the dreaded questions "what is your current pay" and "what pay do you expect"? Compensation is perceived by most employees and job seekers as a "black box" because compensation management principles, systems, and rates of pay are not openly communicated to either employees or job seekers. This session will focus on preparing you to answer the two dreaded questions as well as open up the "black box" to provide you with the inside information that you need to be prepared to manage all aspects of the pay component of your job search.  But before you discuss pay with a prospective employer, it is essential that you prepare for the interview and interview well.  During our session we will also review interviewing best practices, resources that can help increase your chances of success, and finally techniques that improve the quality of your phone, video, and in person interviewing.

For more information visit http://mtbethel.org/careerministry or contact Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 /kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org.

Mt. Bethel is still accepting women's business clothing and accessories for the Dress for Success ministry at the trailer next to the CAC.  And what better time than spring cleaning to look in your closet for items that you just don't wear any longer -- put those business suits back to work. Dress for Success is a not-for-profit organization that helps disadvantaged women find jobs and remain employed. This includes helping each woman dress appropriately for job interviews and for her new job when she gets it. If you have business clothing or accessories (shoes, purses, jewelry) to donate, please call 404-285-1088 or 678-362-6812, and arrangements will be made.
