Mt. Bethel UMC

April 7, 2013

This past Holy Week was one of the best times of worship that I can remember in a long time.  We were blessed with Dr. Kimbrough and his powerful messages as well as the fantastic music from our very talented staff and guest, Alicia Williamson.  As the week progressed, the worship kept building as we approached Easter Sunday.  And then it happened!  Resurrection Day was over the top!  Did you know we had a record number of worshipers during the week who were in and out of our great church?  God really blessed us, and enabled us to be a blessing to others.

I, personally, was blessed tremendously by the revival in particular.  There are times along my spiritual journey that I become too comfortable with where I am in relation to my Heavenly Father.  During the revival services, there were several times when I was reminded that no matter how old I am and how much I think I know, God is not finished with me yet, demands my full attention and has not rescinded my call to ministry.   So would you join me in a renewal of my calling and my devotion to God --- giving myself to Him 100% in my life, my family, my job, and my relationships?  I believe God has great things for all of us yet to do and many people to win to the kingdom.

This Sunday, we begin a series of sermons entitled "Gear Up" based on the armor of God. Our Scripture reference for this series is Ephesians 6:10-20.  We, the people of God, live in a world that is out to destroy families and individuals.  Just calling ourselves Christians is insufficient to confront the problems and dangers of everyday living.  We must know the Scripture.  This series from Ephesians will help us to understand the weapons God has given us to fight in the spiritual war.  As Ephesians 6:11 says, "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."  For the next six Sundays here are the spiritual weapons we will be discussing:  1) Belt of Truth; 2) Breastplate of Righteousness; 3) Shoes (sandals) of Readiness; 4) Shield of Faith; 5) Helmet of Salvation; and 6) Sword of the Spirit.  It is my prayer that you will not miss even one of these messages because they will be great teaching tools for our journey of faith.

I'll see you in church on Sunday!
Rev. Glenn Ray
Associate Pastor

The altar flowers are given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Virginia Rizzo on our 54th wedding anniversary, given by Charles Rizzo.

The rosebud on the altar is in honor of the birth of Aubrey Madison Cone, daughter of Ryan & Stephanie Cone and granddaughter of Susie Cone, on March 28, 2013.

The Paschal Candle burns in honor of the baptisms of Caroline Whitney Bogusz and Kayleigh Joy Strech, daughters of Don & Jennifer Bogusz; and Ella Marie Burke & Carter Anthony Burke, daughter & son of Ogan & Stacey Burke.

Recently hospitalized: Bob Eason, Jeff Hart, Theresa Newbold, Jack Taffe.

We extend Christian sympathy to Frank, Julie, Jeffrey & Casey Zimmerman in the loss of Julie's sister, Kathy Leet; and to Tom, Jo, Alex, Andrew & Emory Woods in the loss of Tom's father, Chuck Woods. May God hold you in the palm of His hand during this time of grief.

Congratulations to Laura Atkinson and Steven Limbrick who were married at Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee on March 23, 2013.

Many thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers who worked so hard to beautify our church this Easter. Our flower cross on Lower Roswell was admired by hundreds of cars passing by and will certainly be the center focus in numerous family photos. Our Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall and Upper Room truly reflected this joyful day. Thank you to all who blessed us with your time and talents! - - Susan Ziegler, Worship Chairman
