MBUMC

March 10, 2013

Randy Jim Wilcox has a powerful drama where he is winding his Dad's old watch, looks at the audience, and says:

"When I thought Dad was teaching me to ride a bike without training wheels;

"Now I know he was showing me how to stand on my own two feet.

"Then, I thought he was teaching me to construct a kite out of newspaper and an old yardstick;

"Now, I realize that he was encouraging me to fly.

"Then I thought he was forcing me to eat everything on my plate;

"Now, I realize he was teaching me the integrity of commitment.

"Then, I thought he was coaching me to throw and catch a baseball;

"Now, I realize he was telling me that those who play together stay together.

"Then, I thought he was helping me finish my homework for tomorrow.

"Now, I realize he was teaching me that learning lasts a lifetime.

"Then, I thought he was working for a living.

"Now, I realize he was working for me and leaving giant footprints to follow."

There is no way to adequately express my gratitude to all the behind-the-scene workers during our "Living Generously" series. The ladles, towels, money, crosses, puzzles, flower arrangements . . .  All of the pain-staking efforts to make the series come alive. Thank you and God bless you.

Last Sunday, our congregation returned 586 commitment cards totaling $4.4 million toward next year's operating budget. That is terrific! But, what's really powerful is the lesson of life being passed along as children knelt at the altar with parents in commitment to our Lord and Savior.

Mt. Bethel is a tremendous place to truly learn and exemplify His gracious generosity.

                        Randy

PS - Please return your commitment card if you have not already done so.
