                                  Values
The Titanic was called the unsinkable ship, but it sunk in the North Atlantic on the night of April 15, 1912.  The ship rammed into an iceberg which carved a 300 foot hole out of its hull.  It disappeared into the dark waters within two and a half hours; of the 2,200 passengers on board, only 705 survived.

A story is told of one man aboard the Titanic who, as the ship was sinking, offered another man a fistful of money in exchange for his seat on the lifeboat.  The second man took the money and the first man took his seat.  The man with the money died.  The one who gave it lived.

One man valued money more than life, the other man valued life more than money.  One man looked at the immediate, the other man looked at the long haul.

    What do you live for?
What and who would you die for?
What is your first thought when you awake and your last thought before you sleep?
    What are your dreams?
What is the measure of your living generously?

The answers to these questions will show you what your true values are.  Do you like them?  If not, God will help you change them and enjoy the "abundant life" He alone offers.

Jim Williams writes, "Determine what is worth more and what is worth less than life and you'll find your core values."

Jesus Christ says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matt. 6:21).

The long haul is what life is all about.

The Career Ministry of Mt. Bethel UMC will meet on Tuesday, February 26 at the Mt. Bethel Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068).  Resume Reviews begin at 6:30 p.m. / Presentation at 7:30 p.m. The topic for the evening is How to Interview & Negotiate Pay. Most job seekers find dealing with pay issues to be one of the most challenging components of their job search. How do you address the dreaded questions "what is your current pay" and "what pay do you expect"? Compensation is perceived by most employees and job seekers as a "black box" because compensation management principles, systems, and rates of pay are not openly communicated to either employees or job seekers. This session will focus on preparing you to answer the two dreaded questions as well as open up the "black box" to provide you with the inside information that you need to be prepared to manage all aspects of the pay component of your job search. But before you discuss pay with a prospective employer, it is essential that you prepare for the interview and interview well.  During our session we will also review interviewing best practices, resources that can help increase your chances of success, and finally techniques that improve the quality of your phone, video, and in person interviewing. For more information visit http://mtbethel.org/careerministry  or contact Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 or kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org.
