Randy                    New Year - New You
Fear is a natural reaction to danger. The instinct to fight or flee is God-given. Not to know fear can be a liability in a dangerous or threatening situation. However, one must prepare in advance for frightful times when it concerns one's faith.

Everyone must endure what I call "night shifts" eventually in their course of living. Usually, the night shift periods are characterized by a sense of fear, sadness or loneliness. They are dark periods filled with hard realities, a time of quiet desperation. Night shifts frequent everyone's life, how one handles their night shift is most important.

A night shift example occurred in an emergency room when a small boy was rushed in. He had been struck by a car. A hush descended over the waiting room as the parents received the solemn news. They had hit the "night shift." Most parents in that room wondered what they would have done if they had been where that child's parents were. Life, at least for a while, would have lost its meaning. Every dream and hope would have gone out of focus. The temptation could well be to cash in one's chips and get out of life's game.

The solution to night shift fear is decided well before the actual emergency. The solution occurs when one has established their faith in God and fixed their convictions. They have decided in their sanest moments that the love of God is certain, that Jesus Christ is their Savior and Friend, and that the Holy Spirit guides, lifts and holds . . .  And nothing is ever going to change those realities. God is good . . . Always. No night shift fear can alter that reality.

Join us this Sunday as we continue the series, "New Year, New You" with the sermon, "How to Handle That Fear."
