What are you getting for Christmas?
An artist was commissioned to paint a scene depicting how
Christmas offers hope. He went to work and created, in a unique fashion, the hope Christmas provides.

The scene he painted was a wintry twilight. The trees were heavily laden with snow, the wind appeared to be howling. The little house was a dark and dreary mountain cabin. It was a lonely, desolate
looking place in the midst of a frightening storm. It was a sad picture that actually depicted more hopelessness than hope.

The owner-to-be took one look at the artist's picture and declared that it would never do! The artist explained, "Oh, I'm not finished. I just wanted you here with me as I portray how Christmas provides hope." Then with a quick stroke of yellowish oil, he put a light into one window. The effect was magical! The entire scene was transformed into a vision of comfort, cheer and hope. That little light in the window portrayed joy, security, warmth, peace . . . hope, all in the midst of a raging storm. The prophet Isaiah assures
us, "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light: those who lived in a land of deep darkness, on them light has shined" (Isaiah 9:2).

I am convinced that all of us live with some degree of "darkness." Some of us will experience our first Christmas without a loved one. Some are trying to celebrate this Christmas struggling financially. Some of us have loved ones now serving "in harm's way." All of us are appreciative of them and concerned for their safety.

In the midst of storm and darkness, may you know the true hope Christmas provides. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."!! (John 1:5)

To the question, "What are you getting for Christmas?" . . .
He offers Hope.

Randy
