Name: Bo Yarbrough
Employer: Walmart Stores Inc
Length of Time in NWA: 1 year recently, 8 years away before, but grew up here
How long have you been in NWAEL: 1 year

How has being part of Emerging Leaders helped you connect with NWA:

Since joining NWAEL I've been exposed to professionals in industries ranging from banking, consumer goods, retail, not for profit, etc.  Being a NWAEL member has helped me meet my goals on a professional level, as well as a personal level. I've connected with people who've contributed to my success at work, as well as being exposed to many opportunities to give back through some amazing non-profit organizations.

Other comments regarding NWAEL: NWAEL is the best way for young and seasoned professionals in NWA to get connected, get involved, and to make a difference in the community we all love so much.  Being involved in the workgroups has given me the opportunity to turn things I'm passionate about into action and help others reach their goals as well.

POLITICAL & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

The mission of the Political and Government Affairs workgroup is to inform and engage members in government and politics.

With this being an election year, the group is working to coordinate programming for our NWAEL members and the public to aid in making informed decisions at the polls this November.  They are currently working on getting voter registration tables at area festivals and events and also looking to bring the Secretary of State Student Voter Education Program to NWA.  If you'd like to help the group with voter registration initiatives and candidate forums attend the next workgroup meeting!

SUSTAINABILITY

The Sustainability Workgroup continually brainstorms and seeks ways to make NWA a greener, more efficient environment.  At the last meeting, Orlo Stitt, spoke about sustainability though energy conservation and using renewable sources. Mr. Stitt is President of Stitt Energy Systems, INC. Mr. Stitt's company designs and builds energy efficient homes and commercial buildings. He was able to talk about his process and how this process is beneficial to the home owner. He also advices home owners on how to make their existing homes more energy efficient. By reducing the costs that one spends on utilities this puts more money back into their pockets each month.

If sustainability is something you're interested in furthering in NWA, contact Craig Overton.

COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT

Community Enrichment serves to connect members with volunteer opportunities, existing leaders and be an incubator for new project ideas.  This mission produces a wide-range of projects that members are currently working on.  If you have an interest in any of them or have an idea of your own that doesn't fit with any of the other workgroups then Community Enrichment is the place to test your idea.

Currently the Workgroup is investigating the Better Block concept and gather support and partners to create the first "pop-up" community in NWA.  If you're interested in community development, attend the next Community Enrichment Workgroup meeting!
