NWA EMERGING LEADERS | IMPACT

Emerging Leaders Volunteer at Samaritan Cafe
On April 30, NWAEL members took over the Samaritan Center Cafe and assisted Samaritan Community Center workers with the daily kitchen duties and food service.  Thirteen NWAEL volunteers served 275 plates over the 3-hour shift.  The next NWAEL service day will be held in fall. This opportunity was coordinated by the Community Enrichment workgroup.

Emerging Leaders Roll-Out Mastermind Groups
Over 130 people signed up to participate in NWAEL Mastermind Groups.  These groups were coordinated by the Legacy workgroup and culminated with a Kick-Off luncheon on April 23 where groups met for the first time.  Special thanks to Chipotle, Boys & Girls Club of Benton County, Daniels & Flynt and Bethany Stephens.  Kudos to the Legacy workgroup for a great event and coordination of the Mastermind Groups.

Emerging Leaders Add 25 Bicycles to Trail System

NWA Emerging Leaders, in partnership with the City of Rogers Parks Department placed 25 new bicycles on the Rogers Trail System for free, public use on the trails.  The bicycles are located at the Horsebarn Trailhead and the Blossom Way Trailhead and are used by the public on the honor system.  The new bicycles are cruiser style and are a mixture of men's, women's and junior's bikes. The Community Bike Program is funded by the Race for the Spike bicycle race held every August in conjunction with the Rogers Frisco Festival.  Thanks to the Greenways & Trails Workgroup for continuing their work on the Community Bike Program!

POLITICAL & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

The mission of the Political and Government Affairs workgroup is to inform and engage members in government and politics.

With this being an election year, the group is working to coordinate programming for our NWAEL members and the public to aid in making informed decisions at the polls this November.  They are currently working on getting voter registration tables at area festivals and events and also looking to bring the Secretary of State Student Voter Education Program to NWA.  If you'd like to help the group with voter registration initiatives and candidate forums attend the next workgroup meeting!

SUSTAINABILITY

The Sustainability Workgroup continually brainstorms and seeks ways to make NWA a greener, more efficient environment.  This year, the group hopes to release videos, manuals, and kits as resources to the public to help them live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and produce events with less of an impact to the environment.  Currently they are deep into the development of recycling manuals that will assist citizens in recycling efforts.  If this is something you're interested in helping out with, contact Craig Overton.

Next meeting:

Thursday, May 15 at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (3rd Thursday of the Month)

INTRUST Bank, Rogers

3300 Market Street, Suite 130

COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT

Community Enrichment serves to connect members with volunteer opportunities, existing leaders and be an incubator for new project ideas.  This mission produces a wide-range of projects that members are currently working on.  If you have an interest in any of them or have an idea of your own that doesn't fit with any of the other workgroups then Community Enrichment is the place to test your idea.

Currently the Workgroup is investigating the Better Block concept and gather support and partners to create the first "pop-up" community in NWA.  If you're interested in community development, attend the next Community Enrichment Workgroup meeting!

Next Meeting: Monday, May 19 (3rd Monday of the Month) at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
